BATON ROUGE (AP) — The price tag for the state and federal response to Hurricane Gustav is at $469 million and rising. The figure includes $258 million in state funds and an about $211 million in federal funds on items like food, water, ice and tarps. Included in the state expenses is $48 million to bring in law enforcement and National Guard units from other states, $20 million for generators, nearly $17 million for shelters, $21 million for evacuations, $6 million to transport special needs patients and about $28 million for meals-ready-to-eat, water and ice.
