The new faces of Student Government officially took office Friday, April 7 when Student Government President Chris Odinet and Vice President Christen Heaton were inaugurated in front of the Memorial Tower.
Odinet also announced his executive staff appointments, which include several new departments such as campus development, campus outreach and external affairs. Odinet said he developed the new departments according to his campaign platform initiatives.
Odinet described his appointments as a mix between experienced SG members and new faces to the SG scene.
Odinet selected political science junior Ryan Berni as his chief of staff. Berni previously served as a University Court justice, Trial Court justice and assistant director of governmental relations under former SG President Michelle Gieg’s administration.
“Ryan has experience in leadership positions across the campus,” Odinet said. “He’s great at coordinating people and motivating them to get things done.”
Berni said he is most optimistic about new additions to the executive staff, such as the campus outreach team that will encompass the Student Action Team and the diversity awareness program.
“I think our biggest goal is to make Student Government more student friendly,” Berni said. “We want to serve as a liaison to the students.”
Odinet also appointed Crawford Leavoy, political science junior, and Em Leblanc, elementary education junior, as executive assistants. Leavoy previously served as Gieg’s executive secretary.
“[Leavoy and Leblanc] are the most efficient people,” Odinet said. “They are hardworking, dedicated and trustworthy.”
