BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A veteran curator has been picked to serve as director of Louisiana’s network of state-run museums.
Sam Rykels’ appointment as director of the Louisiana State Museum was announced Monday by Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu and the state museum board of directors.
The 56-year-old Rykels has been an exhibits curator and director of interpretive services during his 18-year career at the state museum. He takes over for Robert Wheat, who has served as interim director for the past eight months.
Museums in Baton Rouge, Natchitoches, Patterson and Thibodaux are among the sites that are part of the Louisiana State Museum network.
