LSU senior middle blocker Brittnee Cooper made Southeastern Conference history today as she became the first player to win SEC Offensive Player of the Week after winning SEC Defensive Player of the Week the week before. The league office announced Tuesday that Cooper was SEC Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Tiger Classic during last weekend.”We’re thrilled that Brittnee won this award and proud of the recognition she is getting after working extremely hard during the offseason,” said volleyball coach Fran Flory in a news release. “She is truly beginning to understand how to defend other teams’ offenses and beginning to understand how to be good technically on both sides of the net. The difference in her is not a physical but a mental change. She’s done a good job studying and preparing for matches.”The Houston native was named to the Tiger Classic All-Tournament team after knocking home 43 kills during the weekend while recording a kill on 62 percent of the balls she touched, committing only five errors. She also became the only player since 1997 to record 20 or more kills against national powerhouse Nebraska in the Tigers’ five-set loss to the Cornhuskers on Friday night.
