Rivals.com five-star cornerback Janzen Jackson is reconsidering his verbal commitment to LSU, said Ken Trahan, president and general manager of Neworleans.com Sports.Trahan said Jackson is rethinking his choice after former Saints defensive line coach Ed Orgeron decided to go to Tennessee as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator instead of coaching at LSU.
Orgeron is a long-time friend of Jackson’s father, Lance Guidry. Guidry, an assistant coach at McNeese State, is a candidate for a spot on the Volunteers coaching staff.
Tennessee has a brand new coaching staff. Former Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is the head coach, Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant coach Monte Kiffin is the defensive coordinator and Orgeron is assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator.Trahan said Guidry and Orgeron may be a package deal, possibly leaving LSU without Jackson. Guidry told The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette he wants Jackson to make his own decision.
Jackson, a Barbe High School product and Rivals.com No. 2 cornerback, will visit Tennessee this weekend, LSU on Jan. 23 and Alabama on Jan. 30.
He was recruited largely by former Tiger co-defensive coordinators Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto.
