Mississippi State trampled LSU, rushing for 285 yards on 48 carries in a 37-7 win.
It was only the second time this century Mississippi State has defeated LSU, and the first time the Tigers have lost in Starkville since 1999.
The Tigers came out flat, undisciplined and unfocused against the Bulldogs. LSU committed nine penalties for 111 yards in the game, and had multiple other penalties declined by Mississippi State. LSU had a touchdown wiped off the board on its first drive due to an offensive pass interference call, and lost two defensive players to targeting.
The Tigers’ penalty count on the season is now up to 30 through three games, which is more than half of last season’s total.
Offensively LSU struggled to move the ball when penalties were not called. The team finished with 270 yards compared to Mississippi State’s 465. Senior quarterback Danny Etling was under pressure most of the night and had receivers drop multiple passes down the first down marker.
Junior running back Derrius Guice found little room to run besides a 25 yard run in the second quarter. Guice finished the night with 76 yards on 15 carries with no touchdown.
