October is a month of strange happenings. Ghouls, goblins, Sarah Palin copycats and if you happen to be on River Road, athletic zombies.
Of Moving Colors, a professional modern dance company will be hosting the first ever 5K fun run/walk on October 1. It won’t be your ordinary run; it will include the living dead.
Runners are encouraged to dress as zombies for this jaunt starting at 13th Gate Haunted House and following River Road. For students looking to jump start their Halloween season early or are just tired of running with mortals, this is a golden opportunity.
“It should be a really fun event because the location ties in with the theme,” says Carrie Cliburn, associate director from Of Moving Colors. “Before the run actors from the haunted house will be roaming to gather everyone.”
Following the run participants and the dancers from Of Moving Colors and will be performing “Thriller.”
“It will have all the elements of a flash mob without the surprise,” Cilburn says.
OMC is offering four free classes for those wanting to learn the dance and join in.
“The movements have been modified so anyone and their mother can do it,” explains Cilburn.
If zombie costumes, a 5K and a tribute to Michael Jackson doesn’t do it for you, after the run and dance beer and other beverages will be available as well as a t-shirt with $15 pre-registration and prizes for best costumes.
Cilburn and the OMC company are hoping that like the living dead, this event will continue to live on,
“The board of directors was interested in finding an event we could repeat year to year and grow and become a feature in the community that people could look forward to.”
