Paul Mainieri was very impressed with his starting pitcher Saturday. Ma’Khail Hilliard threw six scoreless innings en route to his sixth win of the season. Hilliard had to overcome some fielding errors by his teammates, for which he took full responsibility. He didn’t blame anyone but himself for the Tigers’ difficult innings, which he worked out of without allowing any damage. Mainieri said after the game that Hilliard possess the characteristics of a real winner, not taking the easy way out and letting his teammates’ mistakes hurt the Tigers’ chances.
