It was a sun-splashed afternoon at The Box as Ma’Khail Hilliard took the mound for the Tigers, ready to deliver another outstanding performance.
Hilliard once again exceeded expectations, as he went for six strong innings and gave up no runs and just three hits. The bullpen followed suit and surrendered no runs in the latter innings. Hilliard moved to 6-1 on the year with an ERA of 0.76.
Despite some fielding mistakes from his teammates, Hilliard did not waver as he pitched out of trouble several times, including his worst jam in the sixth.
Head Coach Paul Mainieri praised Hilliard’s attitude after the game and said he acted like a winner by battling through the team’s errors.
Daniel Cabrera was 2-for-4 including a 2-run HR in the 7th to give the Tigers some insurance.
LSU next faces Nicholls State Tuesday evening at The Box.
