The battle of I-10 turned rather intense in LSU’s NIT first round matchup against ULL, and Tigers Head Coach Will Wade wanted to assure that LSU is ready for any opponent.
“Yeah, I’m not scared to play anyone,” LSU guard Skylar Mays commented. “Yeah, we’re not scared. Let’s be clear about that. We ain’t scared. Period,” LSU Head Coach Will Wade followed.
Cajuns Head Coach Bob Marlin saw the matter differently and feels he took the correct stance for his program.
“I back up what I said. I stood up for my team, and our program and our university. I have no comment about what he says, don’t really care. He can run his program. I’m going to run mine, and I’m going to do it with class,” Coach Marlin said.
Regardless of the animosity Coach Wade wanted to ULL to cherish their time in the PMAC, calling a timeout with 13 seconds left in the game.
“Well since they don’t get to play us very often. I thought they should sit there and enjoy the opportunity to play us,”
Coach Wade commented.
Among the tension, the Tigers did walk away with a 84-76 win over the Cajuns and Duop Reath lead the way for LSU with a 26 point, 11 rebound double double.
“He’s awesome. He’s very talented on the offensive end. It’s very hard to stop him, and he did pretty much whatever he wanted today,” Mays said.
“It’s a good win. I was proud of our guys. I thought we made some good plays. Sampson made some big plays. I thought Op played really well, and I thought our guys responded to their challenges leading up to the game,” Coach Wade said.
LSU now awaits their opponent between the UC Davis and Utach matchup as they progress into the NIT’s second round.
