No. 8 LSU Softball beat no. 10 Auburn 3-2 Saturday to kick off conference play and take the series.
“We were ready to go,” said head coach Beth Torina about the game after winning in 14 innings on Friday night.
Pregame festivities included recognition of softball alumnae including former coach Yvette Girouard and a first pitch thrown by All-American Kristin Schmidt.
The game was tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning and the Tigers won with a run from sophomore Amanda Doyle.
“I’ve been hitting hard balls right to people the entire weekend so I knew I was gonna hit the ball hard and it just happened to land,” said Doyle following the game.
One game remains in the series as the Tigers will play Auburn one more time Sunday at 4 p.m., followed by the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Tuesday night back in Tiger Park.
