The NCAA has spent the last six months looking into the recruiting tactics of LSU basketball coach Will Wade, Yahoo! reported.
According to Yahoo! Sports writer Pete Thamel, the NCAA began looking into Wade not long after his hire at LSU in March 2017. NCAA’s inquiry has since stalled because of a lack of specifics regarding Wade’s recruiting.
“After talking to my staff we have had no contact from the NCAA regarding any irregularities,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva told Yahoo Sports on Sunday.
In his first season at LSU, Wade has quickly changed a 10-21 LSU team to one with a winning record. He has lead the Tigers to a 16-12 record this season, a significant turn around from the previous season.
Wade already has the No.3 recruiting class of 2018, including five-stars Naz Reid and Emmitt Williams and four-stars Ja’Vonte Smart and Darius Days.
In addition, Wade was also able to get Tremont Waters to Baton Rouge in 2017 following his release from Georgetown. Waters leads the team in points this season, averaging 15.6 points per game. He leads the Southeastern Conference in steals per game at 2.1 and is second in assists at 5.8.
Wade previously coached at VCU in 2016-17, where he made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances with a 51-20 record. He also compiled a 40-25 record at UT-Chattanooga in 2014-15.
This follows an FBI investigation that links former LSU players to multiple violations of NCAA amateurism rules.
