Several days after dismissing two players and suspending two more, head coach Will Wade discussed Friday his view on recruiting players that have been accused, yet not convicted, of criminal charges.
“We don’t want to do anything that’s going to put the LSU campus at risk or students at risk,” Wade said. “That’s not my job, to vet everything. We’ve got professionals on campus who do all that. We leave it to them.”
Recent 2018 commit and five-star prospect Emmitt Williams was accused and arrested in October with sexual battery charges, but the charges were dropped in December.
Kavell Bigby-Williams is a transfer from Oregon who is currently sitting out the 2017-2018 season because of NCAA transfer rules. According to the Oregon student newspaper, Bigby-Williams was under investigation for sexual assault during the 2016-2017 season with the Ducks. Bigby-Williams was never charged.
Wade mentioned later in the presser that he has backed off of recruits for “all sorts of reasons.”
Both Williams and Bigby-Williams will be eligible to play for the 2018-2019 season.
The Tigers face Arkansas on Saturday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 2:30 p.m.
