The University will be using metal detectors at the student gate before the game against Alabama on Nov. 3, according to LSU Assistant Ticket Manager Garrett Thibodeaux.
The SEC has mandated that all stadiums must have metal detectors at all entrances by 2020. The University has tested metal detectors at gates around Tiger Stadium throughout the season, and the game will be the first time this season that metal detectors have been deployed at the student gate.
Thibodeaux said students should arrive an extra 30-45 minutes early to accommodate for the extra time needed at the metal detectors. Cell phones will need to be placed in a bin, but small items such as keys or a belt should not be an issue.
As of now, this rule applies only to SEC football stadiums, but it is expected to be enforced at other sports venues in the future.
