With classes kicking into high gear, everyone is going to need some type of relaxation from powerpoints and notecards. And where there is detoxing, there is Netflix. Here are the upcoming Netflix offerings, all of which could act as a distraction from those chemistry flashcards.
“Better Call Saul”
Arriving on Netflix: Netflix is being secretive, but it’s expected early February
What it is: “Breaking Bad’s” Saul Goodman was not always the lawyer of the infamous Heisenberg. Before he associated himself with everyone’s favorite meth cook, he went by James Morgan. The spin off reveals a small time lawyer trying to make it big and Morgan will do just about anything to do so.
Why you should watch: Spin-offs are, more often than not, very disappointing. “Better Call Saul” is quite the exception. It manages to recreate the charm of “Breaking Bad” while still having a style that is completely unique to Saul Goodman’s own backstory.
“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny”
Arriving on Netflix: Feb. 8
What it is: A band of legendary warriors protects a 400-year-old sword known as “The Green Destiny.”
Why you should watch: If you haven’t seen the first “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” you must do so. It is an absolutely magnificent film and based on the sequel’s trailer, it looks like the second film won’t disappoint.
“LOVE”
Arriving on Netflix: Feb. 19
What it is: Judd Apatow, best known for “Knocked Up” and “The 40-year-old Virgin” writes and produces this 10 episode first season which Netflix describes as “navigating the thrills and agonies of modern relationships.”
Why you should watch: The plot is being kept tightly under wraps. The show will follow two characters, Mickey and Gus, as the two begin their romantic relationship. If you enjoy Apatow’s earlier work you should keep your eye out for his newest offering.
“Fuller House”
Arriving on Netflix: Feb. 26
What it is: 20 years has passed since the family sitcom “Full House” ended. However, this reunion revisits the group to see where they are after all this time.
Why you should watch: “Full House” was huge even after it went off the air. The creators of the original have teamed with Netflix to bring this reunion to fruition. Even if you don’t think it’s a good idea to get the Tanners back together, you know you want to see what has been happening in their San Francisco home after more than two decades.
