As his term in office begins to wind down, President Obama made his first visit to Baton Rouge to speak with residents about issues they would like him to work on in his final year.
After giving a short speech, Obama opened the floor to questions and passed a microphone around the McKinley High School auditorium.
The President fielded many questions ranging from the environment, education and finding the cure for cancer.
“I do not think the cure to cancer will come in my lifetime, but I do believe it will come in yours,” Obama said to a young member of the audience.
McKinley High School is a very historical place in Louisiana. It was the first school in East Baton Rouge Parish to be established for African American students.
Since Baton Rouge is filled with so many college students, President Obama also stressed the importance of education and hard work to them.
The President also urged the audience to pay close attention to this upcoming election.
“Our system of government only works when you are involved not just by voting, but by being involved throughout the whole process,” Obama said.
The President also informed the crowd he hopes to make it back to Baton Rouge for a LSU football game.
