The No. 22 LSU women’s swimming and diving team closed their season on a high note with three wins in a quad meet at the University of Houston Recreation Center on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers (12-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) defeated the University of Houston (224-129), Rice University (280-67) and Tulane (266-87). LSU took first place in eight of the nine event events on Saturday and fifteen of the nineteen events during the weekend.
“There was some great racing over the course of the past two days,” said swimming coach Dave Geyer in a news release. “When you start to hit rest cycles, you have a squad that can be all over the place physically. From here, we need to fine tune details and get ready for SEC Championships.”
The meet ended how it started with an LSU win an relay. The Lady Tigers won all four relays in the meet, including victories in the 400-yard medley and 200 yard-freestyle relays on Saturday and 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley on Friday.
Senior swimmers Taryn MacKenzie and Megan Cox each provided two individual wins for the Lady Tigers. MacKenzie was first in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday and first in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday. Cox placed first in the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday and in the 100 yard butterfly on Friday.
Senior swimmers Stacey Stanfield (500-yard freestyle) and Sophie Weber (200-yard backstroke) and freshman swimmer Lauren Thompson (400-yard individual medley) had first place finishes on Saturday.
On Friday, senior swimmer Danielle Stirrat, junior swimmers Leah Troskot and Colleen O’Neil brought home wins in the 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, respectively.
In diving, Freshman Lizzie Cui won the one-meter dive on Saturday in her second meet for LSU.
The Lady Tigers will compete in the SEC Championship in Columbia, Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatic Center on Feb. 17.
