Residence Hall Association will not hold an election this year as previously planned and reported by The Daily Reveille.
The elections that were previously scheduled for last Thursday and then rescheduled for Friday — despite there being only one ticket on the ballot — did not and will not take place, said Doug Fields, outgoing RHA president.
He said RHA had planned to hold the election to discover any problems with the new online voting process and they were able to find them.
RHA Commissioner of Elections Dave Dessauer said there were several technical problems that prevented the election from taking place.
“The process got messed up,” he said.
Dessauer said an e-mail was supposed to be sent to all students living on campus, giving them a link to vote online.
He said questions arose about wether all on-campus students would receive the e-mail and if any students that lived off-campus could possibly receive it, so the e-mail was never sent.
“It’s been well documented,” he said. “Hopefully, the future will be better.”
Fields said the process was successful because next year’s commissioner of elections will now know the problems they encountered this year.
There was only going to be one ticket on the ballot — Amy Scales for president and Denelle Walker for vice president.
Scales and Walker will be inaugurated into office at the RHA spring banquet at the end of the year.
