LSUPD is investigating a series of vehicle burglaries at the Edward Gay Apartment Complex on Roosevelt Street last week.
Maj. Lawrence Rabalais, LSUPD spokesman, said the burglaries, which were reported between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Sept. 13, involved stealing three cars’ in-dash stereo systems.
Rabalais said it was unusual for three burglaries to occur in one night because the complex’s fence has deterred criminals since it was erected.
“Those apartments used to be a hot spot for burglaries until five or seven years ago,” Rabalais said. “When a fence was put up, property crime decreased by about 80 percent.”
Rabalais said tenants in the complex should keep their eyes out for anything unusual and report it as soon as possible to campus police.
“We have asked the people living in the area north of Kirby-Smith to be aware of the crimes and to keep their belongings out of view in their cars,” he said. “You don’t want to give the impression that you have anything worth taking.”
