The Student Government Collegiate Action Team is sponsoring a third event this semester to increase the bond between LSU and Southern University.
CAT is hosting a three-on-three basketball tournament Saturday with teams from both university campuses.
“We are trying to break down all those walls between the two schools and show that together we’re stronger,” said SG President Darrell Broussard.
Broussard said this year the Student Government organizations from both universities have been working hard to help the two schools and their students form a stronger union.
“The idea is to try to bring the student bodies together and familiarize them with each other,” Broussard said.
In January, several SG members and other LSU student leaders participated in a joint leadership conference on Southern’s campus, where they discussed ways to help communication between the two campuses.
In February, both LSU and Southern SG members hosted a breakfast for several high school students in the Baton Rouge area who are members of their schools’ student councils.
Broussard said leaders from both universities were able to answer students’ questions and dispel myths about staying in Baton Rouge for college.
SG plans to continue these efforts to form bonds between the universities in future years, Broussard said.
CAT will hold the three-on-three tournament Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rec Center. There is no entrance fee and teams can have up to five members.
Broussard said 20 teams can enter. Each school is reserved eight teams, and four teams can be comprised of members from either school.
Students can sign up to compete through today at 4:30 p.m. in the SG office on the third floor of the Union.
