The Residence Hall Association still has no president or vice president two weeks after the original election.
The RHA Executive Board decided Wednesday during a general meeting to hold another election in Herget Hall and the Horseshoe to finalize the election.
Elections Commissioner Adam French presented members with a detailed report of the election results.
The results showed the largest number of voter registration errors existed in Herget Hall and the Horseshoe, French said.
During the general election, residents were required to sign in on a roster. According to procedure, desk assistants in the halls where voting occurred highlighted the names of residents who had voted.
French’s report showed that about 70 votes did not meet those criteria.
The Executive Board’s decision came two days after the Elections Commission announced Nathan Boudreaux and Doug Fields were the new winners of the election.
Residents in the two halls will recast votes on Friday to determine the winner of the election, said current RHA President Michael Krom.
The decision incited much debate at the general meeting.
Members questioned whether Friday’s election would be under the revised Constitution voted into effect during the April 9 election.
But Krom said the Election Code is roughly the same as in previous elections, and any changes will not affect the outcome of the election.
Boudreaux and Fields’ opposition in the election Chris Broussard and Lauren Fontenot said they felt the board made the right decision.
“The results that come of this election will be the right results,” Broussard said.
Broussard and Fontenot originally were declared winners after the Executive Board broke a tie between the candidates.
Broussard said he hopes the decision ends the controversy surrounding RHA’s election.
“Drama is not good for any organization,” Broussard said. “This is a situation no one wants to be in.”
Boudreaux said he and Fields are disappointed with the board’s decision.
“The voters had already chosen their president and vice president,” Boudreaux said.
Some members voiced concern that another tie could occur, and a large margin of error could happen again.
However, Broussard said because the next election only will be held at two locations, erroneous votes will be easier to control.
