Cash Monies and The Jetsetter will perform at Red Star tonight downtown. This Boston-based band currently is touring to promote the release of their most recent album, “Thinkin’ Out Loud.”
The band has a truly original sound, finding their musical inspiration in various and sundry genres. With a country-rock-punk feel, the band finds an interesting audience drawn to them.
Allen Bush, publicist for the band, says a lot of punk fans like the band even though there is certainly a significant country influence. The punk and rock sounds meld well with the country feel.
This will be the band’s second album produced by Dan Baird of Georgia Satellites fame. The Boston Herald has proclaimed this album “one of the best created locally, in any genre, in some time.”
It is obvious the band loves to travel and perform live judging from its rigorous touring schedule. The show at Red Star is just one of many stops the band will make in the South before heading off to Germany and other parts of Europe.
Jim Gaddis fronts the band on guitar and vocals. Barry Edwards, known for his magical skills, takes over on lead guitar. Scott Cormier on bass and Dave Baker on drums fill their sound out perfectly. The band members come from all over the country with hometowns everywhere from Mississippi to New York.
The subjects discussed on the album are as eclectic as their musical roots. The usual topics — love, heartbreak, etc. — are featured. The band also gives its listeners a taste of the blues that often accompany a blue-collar life.
Cash Monies’ first album has generated as much praise and excitement as their latest project and is available at CurveOfTheEarthRecords.com.
Frontman Jim Gaddis wrote every song on the album. However, the songs really seem to come together in the arranging, in which the entire band participates.
The songs could stand alone, but Edwards adds so much on lead guitar, and Cormier and Baker provide the perfect, driving rhythm section — a vital part of the sound for a band like this.
This fun country, roots, punk, blues, blue-collar, you-name-it group will be at Red Star at 222 Laurel Street. The cover is $5. For more information visit cashmoniesjetsetter.com or pigpilerecords.com and click on the Cash Monies and The Jetsetter link.
