The 32nd annual International Expo, presented by the LSU Union Program Council’s International Committee, will take place at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
The International Expo has been a tradition at LSU since 1970, and this year there will be 26 different exhibits from multiple countries and organizations, said Seema Dave, co-chairperson of the event.
The International Committee is made up of student volunteers to promote an intercultural and international exchange of ideas, knowledge and understanding, she said.
Stage performances representing several countries including Bangladesh and Australia will take place at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and a fashion show will take place at 2 p.m. Dance lessons also will take place at 4 p.m.
There will be exhibits representing the different countries participating, which are designed to inform the public about the diversity on the University’s campus.
A broadcast e-mail was sent out encouraging all students and faculty to attend.
“It’s educational, fun and allows people to be exposed to cultural diversity,” said Dave, a biological sciences sophomore.
International Week, sponsored by Student Government, was set up to promote the expo, she said.
“This is the first time we’ve done International Week,” Dave said. “We want more LSU students to attend.”
People from the Baton Rouge community also will be attending to get the community involved, she said.
