Students who are eagerly anticipating the 2003-04 men’s and women’s basketball seasons will have the opportunity to enter the student section at the LSU-Auburn football game early.
Jenni Peters, athletic promotions manager, said the first 1,000 students who attend Basketball Fan Day at the PMAC Saturday afternoon will be allowed to enter Tiger Stadium 15 minutes before the gates are opened to the rest of the student body.
Students who attend the entire event will receive a ticket and redeem it for a bracelet for early entrance into Saturday night’s football game.
Peters said the department has upgraded the traditional fan day to a “high voltage fan experience,” and the marquee event is the slam dunk competition.
The competition will feature Brandon Bass, Tony Gipson, Regis Koundjia, Darrell Mitchell and Mildon Ambres displaying their best dunks.
Peters said the rest of the event will be a full hour of back-to-back action, including a highlight video from last season, a two-ball competition and competition for “king and queen of the court.”
The two-ball competition will pair one male and one female player together to score as many points as possible in 45 seconds.
The king and queen of the court competition will bring all the players onto the court dribbling a basketball and trying to knock away their teammates’ balls. The last player maintaining control of the ball wins.
Peters said one student will have the chance to shoot the “tuition shot,” which could earn him or her free LSU tuition.
Basketball Fan Day will be in the PMAC from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. No admission fee is required. Students attending the event will have to enter through a specially marked door.
The basketball players will be available for autographs after the end of the event from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
