As the opening date of the new movie “Underworld” approaches, many people are lining up not just to purchase movie tickets.
Heavy metal fans far and wide are in stores buying the soundtrack.
The “Underworld” soundtrack, produced by Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails, features such talents as Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle and former Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland.
The album marks the first time Keenan appeared in a motion picture soundtrack.
Bands such as The Damning Well, Trust Company and A Perfect Circle grace the CD, which was released on Sept. 2.
Every song on the CD was either written exclusively for the movie or was remixed for the album.
“Underworld” contains a special remix of “Judith” by A Perfect Circle. The remix is dark and electric, with many unique computer generated sounds and effects.
The remix does not sound like the original at all, but is less hard rock, more techno.
The album features Keenan and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in a remix of “Bring Me the Disco King” by David Bowie.
The song begins with chimes and ocean sounds. David Bowie’s voice combined with the slow haunting accompaniment makes the remix a soothing treat for the ears.
“Underworld” also contains a few extremely heavy metal songs such as “Baby’s First Coffin” by Dillinger Escape Plan. The music is rhythmic and the lyrics are shocking.
The album also features a new version of “Hover” by Trust Company.
The new version is described as the “quiet mix” on the album cover.
The sounds of the song are alluring and gentle, ending in a fade out. The song sets an eerie mood which reflects the feel of the movie.
The “Underworld” soundtrack is quite impressive. Many big names have come together on one album making the music exceptional. “Underworld,” with its mysterious ballads and amazing metal may prove to be the best soundtrack of this season.
