The current king of tabloid stories returns to the big screen with My Boss’s Daughter. Ashton Kutcher (Just Married, Dude, Where My Car?) stars as Tom Stansfield, a young executive who is desperately seeking a promotion from his lack-luster position as a research assistant.
Tara Reid (American Pie, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder) plays Lisa Taylor, the object of Kutcher’s affection and the daughter of his hot-tempered boss.
After an embarrassing first impression on the subway with Reid, Kutcher believes he has a date with Reid.
When Kutcher arrives at her house, his boss, Jack Taylor (Terrance Stamp), informs him Reid is at a party with her boyfriend and Kutcher will be housesitting for the night.
Kutcher’s main duties include not damaging the house and taking care of his prized flightless owl, O.J.
An uncanny sequence of catastrophes descends on Kutcher. The movie takes place within 24 hours, with Kutcher getting unexpected arrivals from Jack’s former secretary Audrey (Molly Shannon) and her friends including Carmen Electra. Also showing up were Lisa’s drug-dealing brother Red (Andy Richter), and a gangster named T.J. (played by Reservoir Dogs Michael Madsen) who gets burned on a drug deal from Red.
On top of everything else, Jack’s owl escapes after snorting cocaine from a toilet bowl. This results in one too many O.J. Simpson jokes.
Even though My Boss’s Daughter has decent supporting actors with Shannon, Richter, Electra, and Madsen, this movie falls short.
My Boss’s Daughter barely lives up to its name because the boss’s daughter was hardly the main focus of the movie.
The jokes and gags about racism, head trauma, bowel movements, and lewd sexual misconduct often were unnecessary, but occasionally comical.
Scenes continued on and on when they should have been cut short while others ended before they should have.
My Boss’s Daughter is a mediocre attempt to copy the formula for Meet the Parents or There’s Something About Mary. The best thing to do is rent this movie at Blockbuster with a lot of friends. This way, the rental fee can be split so you are only paying a dollar or less.
