* Both the Multi-Agency Homicide Task Force and East Baton Rouge Coroner Louis Cataldie have spoken out about inaccuracies on ABC’s PrimeTime special regarding the South Louisiana serial killer. The program featured details about a male wedding ring found in Charlotte Murray Pace’s home, which EBR Police Chief Pat Englade said does not exist. Also, according to Cataldie, the program inaccurately gave him credit for funding the tests that linked victim DNA samples to a single killer. Task force spokesperson Mary Ann Godawa said the task force would rebut more of PrimeTime’s claims in the near feature.
* Independent New Orleans DNA lab Reliagene Technologies confirmed the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab contracted it to analyze DNA samples of 2002 murder victim Geralyn DeSoto. The lab positively linked samples to the DNA of Derrick Todd Lee. Police have yet to obtain an arrest warrant for DeSoto’s murder, but the news makes DeSoto the sixth serial killer victim.
* An East Baton Rouge grand jury will hear the case against Lee Wednesday. A Lafayette Parish grand jury will not hear Trineisha Dene Colomb’s homicide case until a complete report is compiled. District Attorney Mike Harson expects anywhere from a two week to a month long wait.
* Zachary, La., Police Chief Joey Watson expects to make an announcement soon about a possible connection in the Connie Warner (1992) and Randi Mubruer (1998) homicide cases. Watson told the media his agency sent evidence to State Police Crime Lab and is waiting for results. Lee still remains the primary suspect in both cases.
* Relatives of the six known serial killer victims gathered for their monthly rally on the steps of the state capitol Sunday and released one dove for the memory of each of their loved ones. The group also released a seventh dove for the memory of all unsolved murder victims.
