LSU Baseball players Luis Hernandez and Connore Benge spoke with the media ahead of the teams SEC opener against Missouri.
Senior transfer Luis Hernandez has been playing catcher this season contrary to last season, where he stepped in as a DH at Indiana State. When asked how he has adjusted to the change, Hernandez said he feels more than prepared.
“In the fall I caught more of the scrimmages and I was prepared the whole fall for starting catching here,” Hernandez said.
When asked about the pressure SEC play can bring Hernandez spoke about trying to keep the same mindset the team has had so far this season.
“The expectation is to keep playing. The game does not change, we just keep playing as a team like a family,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez has been off to a hot start offensively this season posting 8 runs, 11 hits with 6 RBI over 40 plate appearances. Hernadez is expected to continue being a key part of the Tigers team, at the back of the plate and in the batter’s box.
Right-handed pitcher Connor Benge spoke about his experience as a relief for this LSU staff.
“I've been lucky enough to have some situations that I was the right fit for and capitalize on the opportunity,” Benge said.
Benge took the mound most recently for the Tigers during their March 9th game against North Alabama.
So far this season, Benge has posted a 3.68 ERA throughout his 7 innings pitched.
Benge will continue to be an important part of the LSU staff as a reliever who can bring consistency and get the team out of difficult situations if needed.
LSU will kickoff SEC play at 4:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium against Missouri.
