Last week, LSU Greek Life put their building skills to the test for a cause bigger than themselves.
Every year, the Greek community collaborates with Habitat for Humanity. This nonprofit organization helps provide homes for families, focusing on the importance that affordable housing plays in stabilizing the community.
The four councils of the Greek community, PHC, IFC, NPHC, and MGC, come together during this week as one council to give back to the Baton Rouge.
“As such large councils, we tend to get caught up in our own chapters’ programming. Over the past week, it has been really awesome to put letters aside and come together as a Greek community to be able to serve our greater Baton Rouge community,” said Addie Trencher, Greek Wee Co-Lead.
In the months leading up to Greek Week, participants raise money for the organization. These funds go towards the materials needed to build the home and any financial support needed during the building process.
Since 2004, LSU Greek Life has built 36 homes and raised 2 million dollars for the cause. Until next year, Greek life is looking forward to adding its 37th home.
