LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson spoke to the media Friday night after his team’s 7-0 win over Little Rock to begin the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament for the Tigers.
The dominance for the Tigers began on the bump, as Johnson handed the ball to his second ace in Anthony Eyanson, and the righty more than delivered in his first NCAA Tournament game.
“You want to make sure the pitcher can handle the moment,” Johnson said of his starter. “and that dude can handle any moment. And he did a great job for us tonight.”
Eyanson threw 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, tallying seven strikeouts and only walking one batter, adding another strong performance to his stellar resume this year.
In the box LSU peppered the Trojans all game long, scoring in 5 different innings in a multitude of different ways, taking advantage of balls in the dirt, and getting lift-off when needed.
“Just thought it was constant pressure,” Johnson said. “Even in the innings we didn’t score, it was kind of like we were poking them all night. That’s what I believe this team is when it’s at its very best.”
The star of the show Friday night would be Daniel Dickinson, who slugged to home runs into the windy Baton Rouge night to propel LSU to victory.
“He’s competitive,” Johnson said of his Second Baseman. “He was here all day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and got some things swing-wise worked out. Then he had his mindset right, had a great series there. Really lifted us there. And obviously lifted us tonight.”
The Tigers now look ahead to Saturday at 8 p.m., where they’ll take on the winner of Rhode Island and Dallas Baptist, with Kade Anderson expected to take the ball for LSU.
