LSU Baseball lost to Little Rock in game six of the Baton Rouge Regional on Sunday 10-4, prolonging the final game to Monday at 8 P.M.
The Tiger’s bullpen struggled to shut down Angel Cano for the entirety of the game. Cano finished the night with 2 runs and 5 RBI.
Jay Johnson considered starting Zac Cowan, but ultimately went with Jaden Noot ( 2 runs, 2 errors, 4.26 ERA) to start the game.
“He had a great first inning, and not a very good second inning,’ Johnson said,’if we need him to get an out or two he’s got to be ready to do that.”
Even though Noot was the starter, Cooper Williams had the best execution on the mound for the Tigers. In three innings, the freshman struck out 4 hitters, allowed 3 hits and finished the game with a 1.59 ERA.
“He has had a really good season,’ Johnson said when asked about the importance of Williams’ performance in the game, ‘and there’s a lot of good days for him here.”
Offensively, LSU could not string together hits to allow runs; they left 10 runners stranded at critical times of the game.
“Trying to do too much is not a plan,” Johnson said is something he likes to tell his at bats.
Johnson wants to make sure they are “locked in to their gameplan” in the next game to avoid the same missed opportunities.
The Tigers are not out of it yet, they have one more try for Regional Champs Monday at 8 P.M.
