LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson spoke with the media following his team’s miraculous, come-from-behind 6-5 win over Arkansas to secure LSU’s spot in the College World Series Final.
“I said this literally probably two years ago to the day, the walk-off homer, Tommy against Wake Forest, I felt something in my body I’ve never felt before,” Johnson said of the walk-off. “Greatest moment in my life. It now has a tied for first, with the ninth inning with Jared Jones, line drive over the second baseman’s head.”
Jared Jones’s base hit in the 9th to score Luis Hernandez secured Johnson’s 3rd National Title appearance in his career, and his 2nd with LSU.
Johnson’s first title game appearance came in 2016 while with Arizona, coincidentally against the same Coastal Carolina that LSU now faces in this year’s Final.
“Just excited to prepare for a couple more days and enjoy being together and go compete for a championship,” Johnson said of the win. “Because I get to coach guys like this.”
LSU went down and came back on three separate occasions in Wednesday’s battle against the Razorbacks, with the Tigers walking off their 6th CWS game, the 3rd most in history.
“What a game. I don’t know if college baseball games on – or is ESPN Classic still around? They should play that game on loop for a week,” Johnson said.
The Tigers now get two days to prepare for the hottest team in America, Coastal Carolina, who have won 26 games in a row and steamrolled their way through bracket one.
LSU and Coastal will do battle Saturday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN
