LSU’s Turning Point USA chapter released a statement Thursday, a day after the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, who founded the national organization.
In the statement, the chapter said it plans to host an RSVP-only vigil for Kirk on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater.
“Charlie Kirk was a Christian, a father, a conservative, and an activist in that order,” the statement reads. “Before he devoted his life to Turning Point, he devoted it to Jesus Christ. His Christian faith and love for his savior were reflected in his everyday life. In that reflection came the creation of Turning Point USA.”
Kirk was a prominent conservative activist and influencer who founded Turning Point USA, an organization focused mainly on youth outreach and with roots in many college campuses.
Turning Point USA at LSU’s statement looked back on Kirk’s work to turn Turning Point USA into one of the country’s largest conservative organizations.
Turning Point USA went from an idea to a movement,” the statement read. “Charlie energized a generation of American children to unapologetically love America and be proud of it. Without his work, an unquantifiable number of young conservatives would be without jobs, friends, and educations… Many people credit Turning Point Action and Charlie Kirk as an overwhelming force that brought conservatism back into the mainstream.”
Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University yesterday and pronounced dead shortly after. It was the first stop on his The American Comeback Tour.
The manhunt for Kirk’s killer is still underway. Authorities have taken two suspects into custody before clearing and releasing them. The FBI has recovered the suspected murder weapon and has released photos of a person of interest.
“We pray that Charlie Kirk be delivered into the kingdom of heaven where he will be reunited with his savior Jesus Christ in eternal glory. Please continue to pray for the Kirk family, the entire Turning Point USA community, and our nation,” the statement concluded.
Kirk was scheduled to take his tour to LSU’s campus on Oct. 27 in the Greek Theater.
