LSU Health New Orleans announced a new partnership with the Indian Institute of Madras, India’s top-ranked engineering university.
LSUH-NO Chancellor Steve Nelson said the partnership between the two institutions assists in LSUH-NO’s mission for a National Cancer Institute Designation for the LCMC Health Cancer Center. Both institutions plan to expand into additional biomedical areas.
Teams from both institutions will lead studies to develop scalable tools like smart medical devices, affordable diagnostics and AI-powered apps. Exchange programs between the two universities will be offered to support new research collaboration between students and staff.
IIT Madras has been ranked as the top university in India consecutively for nine years, facilitating one of the most active deep-tech ecosystems in Asia. Its Research Park has over 1.2 million square feet of space for innovating, hosting 200 startup companies inside it.
The hope is that the partnership will help place LSUH-NO as one of the top 50 academic health centers in the United States by 2030, while improving IIT Madras’ reach in the global marketplace of applied health research.
