The Unity Field tailgate area is undergoing sinkhole repair, an LSU spokesperson told the Reveille.
It was partially flooded Tuesday as part of the repair.
The repairs come as Unity Field was closed for the rest of the football season, with the university claiming doing so was aimed to increase game day security. The school said it had traced two recent game day shootings to a “well-defined geographic area,” referring to Unity Field.
Many students have taken issue with the decision and have seen it as targeted toward Black students and “unjustified.” Unity Field is traditionally where the school’s Black Greek organizations and student groups host tailgates.
