The No. 16 ranked LSU Tigers pummeled Illinois 9-1 in Tiger Park Sunday afternoon.
No. 21 Cece Cellura gained her first win of the season. She pitched four innings facing 15 batters, recording 54 pitches with one strikeout, giving up only five hits, allowing zero runs.
Coach Torina called for a pitching change at the top of the fifth inning to close the game out. No. 8 Cali Deal ended the game facing six batters and recorded 16 pitches with zero strikeouts, giving up two hits and allowing one run.
Illinois pitcher Christina Crawford was handed her first loss of the season. Crawford’s pitching was no amount for the dominating offensive performance the Tigers had. Even after changing Crawford for Abby Sabalaskey, it wasn’t enough to cage the Tigers.
LSU scored at least two runs in each inning and ended the game at the top of 5th inning due to the no mercy rule.
First basemen Tori Edwards and Outfielder Jalia Lassiter were the offensive leaders for the Tigers. Edwards ended the night going 2-2 at bat with four RBIs and recorded her first homerun of the season while Lassiter ended going 1-3 at bat with one RBI.
The Tigers are back in action at 3 p.m. Sunday to face Lamar to close out the Tiger Classic.
