LSU Baseball defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes 10-7 on Monday night. LSU is coming off a strong performance in their opening series against Milwaukee where they went 3-0 and outscored the Panthers 41-15.
The Tigers continued their offensive dominance in the first two innings where Jake Brown homered to right center in the first and Mason Braun hammered a three-run home run down the left field line in the second to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Jaden Noot started the game shaky ,walking his first batter but quickly settled in as he struck out three of the next four batters. But the ship started rocking in the 3rd inning as he gave up a single and a walk which led to a Sawyer Solt three run home run to cut the lead down to 4-3.
This had no effect on the offense though, as the Tigers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 7-3.
Going to the 4th, Noot had a bounce back inning. He struck out 2 batters and forced a groundout in quick time. LSU then added another run with an RBI single by Cade Arrambide.
The Tiger’s dominance continued in the next 2 innings as the pitching staff didn’t give up a single hit and scored a run in each inning to extend the lead to 10-3.
Kent State tried to mount a comeback late in the game. Brody Willia hit a three run RBI double followed up with Micah Rienst hitting an RBI single to cut the lead to 10-7 going into the seventh-inning stretch.
LSU tried to stop the bleeding in the eighth inning. Gavin Guidry came in the game to try and close it out for the Tigers.
Guidry ended up doing just that as he struck out the last six Kent State batters to close out the game for LSU. The Tigers survived the night with a final score of 10-7 that included 13 hits from the defending champs.
The Tigers move on to 4-0 and look to stay undefeated as Nicholls comes to the Box on Wednesday night.
