LSU Gymnast Lexi Zeiss spoke to the media after the NCAA Regional Selection.
ESPN announced that LSU is officially the No. 2 seed and will be hosting an NCAA Gymnastics Tournament Regional in the PMAC. The Tigers will have to go against No. 15 Clemson, Auburn, and the winner of Air Force and Nebraska.
Although the Tigers get the home advantage of hosting, Zeiss is not letting that small detail get to the team’s head as they’re treating it like any other away meet.
“I think it’s great,” Zeiss said. “We get our own fans in the PMAC and we thrive off of that. I’m excited for teams to get to experience that. It’s a pretty cool environment for teams to come in and compete in and we get to have fun with them, but obviously, we need to be disciplined, just like it is an away meet and do all the things we need to do to make sure we’re ready to go.”
As the team prepares for the tournament, the Tigers know it can come down to the little things, like sticking or pointing toes, but as long as they keep their normal routine, everything will be fine to push for Fort Worth.
“Normal is enough,” Zeiss said. “Obviously, there are little things that we can fix, but focusing on things that we’re great at and continuing to push the little things is just great in mindset. Just be confident in what you have done all pre-season and this beginning of the season to prepare you for these moments.”
After coming in third place at the SEC Championship, their hunger remains the same as they try to bounce back to win another National Championship.
“I think we always have hunger,” Zeiss said. “I don’t think the mindset really changes when you talk about hunger because I feel like we had that all year. Obviously, we wanted to win that SEC Championship and it didn’t go our way, but it didn’t defeat us and we’re ready to go and push towards that National Championship because it’s definitely not over yet.”
LSU Gymnastics will compete on April 2 at 8 p.m. in the PMAC for the second round of the NCAA Gymnastics Tournament.
