After 2 weeks, the wait is over, and the elections for the student government will be announced this Thursday. However, students have been questioning the legitimacy of the election, whether their vote really mattered.
“People are going to be wondering where my vote is going and what this is going to do in general,” said Timothy Andrus
But the real reason? a dispute between the HOME and HEART campaign.
Both campaigns addressed on Monday that one of the representatives of the HOME ticket was abusing power, threatening to use “outside political figures” to delay the election.
The representative’s actions were a result of the HEART campaign finding economic charges on the HOME campaign, which violated the rules of the Student Government.
Both campaigns said that they condemn this behavior; the HOME Ticket was immediately remorseful about the actions. The HOME campaign received 4 penalty points, but remains in the election race. This is the final resolution to the issue, and there will be no further review. Both campaigns refrained from asking any questions before, during, and after the alternative dispute resolution.
To finish their official statement, they reviewed their main message to students: to represent everyone at LSU equally.
“I feel like it definitely hurts the people who are running in the election for the first time because of the delayed anxiety of did I win or lose,” said Keiffer Clouatre
The Atchafalaya room will be hosting each of the campaigns at 5 p.m. on Thursday to see who the winner is.
