LSU football and head coach Lane Kiffin have pushed hard on the recruiting trail this weekend, and it is paying off.
The program is hosting a number of top recruits on its official visits to LSU, and the Tigers landed a pair of commitments off of these visits on Sunday: five-star edge rusher KJ Green and three-star running back Brennen Lacey.
Green is ranked as the eighth best recruit in the country by 247 Sports and announced his commitment through social media on Sunday. The Georgia native chose LSU over Oregon, Texas and Alabama.
“All Aboard The Lane Train,” Green captioned his post.
The commitment is a huge win for Kiffin and company. The Tigers lost the commitment of blue chip edge rusher Jaiden Bryant, who flipped to Miami earlier this week and is ranked as the nation’s fourth best edge rusher in class. The Green pickup means LSU fills the need left by Bryant’s decommitment with a player of an equal, if not better, caliber.
He also rounds out what is an incredible group of young defensive linemen. If he signs, Green would join blue chip 2026 signees Richard Anderson, Deuce Geralds and Lamar Brown on the defensive front in time for the 2027 season.
Sunday also saw three-star running back Brennen Lacey commit to LSU. Lacey is the first running back in this recruiting class to commit to LSU in this cycle and upon signing would be the first running back to sign to LSU out of high school since the class of 2025.
Lacey is fairly new to his position and played as a skill utility option during his last season in high school, perhaps contributing to his modest rating. He carries plenty of talent, though, and chose LSU over a glut of other schools, including Florida, Miami, Notre Dame, TCU, Texas Tech and Ohio State.
His signing is undoubtedly a win for LSU, but the Tigers may not be entirely satisfied with just his commitment in the backfield. This weekend saw four-star and fifth-ranked running back Tre Segarra come to Baton Rouge for a visit, and Louisiana’s 10th-best recruit and best running back Trey Martin will be making his official visit to LSU on June 19.
There is still six months left until early signing day, leaving plenty of time for LSU to add to its first recruiting haul under Kiffin. Still, the early returns in this cycle have been promising for the Tigers, and the commitments of Green and Lacey continue that trend.
