McKinney Qualifies for Nationals
One more day of Zone “D” Diving Regionals lead to one more Tiger qualifying for the NCAA Championships as junior Sean McKinney finished in fourth place in the three-meter springboard event on Monday.
McKinney’s prelim score of 376.05 combined with his final round score of 393.60 to come to a fourth-best 12-line score of 769.65. McKinney’s final round score was the second best of his career.
“Sean’s performance was what I have been waiting to come out of him in an elite level competition,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said in a news release. “It was something that I knew he could do.”
Junior Kevin Leong came in 12th in the men’s three-meter with a total score of 656.20 and sophomore Alex Bettridge finished 7th in the women’s one-meter with a score 561.35.
The qualifier continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the women’s platform and continues at 2:45 p.m. with the men’s platform.
