Hot on the heels of many females going out of their minds for “Fifty Shades of Gray” are authors writing similar story lines focusing on unconventional love stories. This includes “Bared To You” by Sylvia Day. This book basically goes hand in hand with “Fifty Shades” minus the whole whips, chains and dirty sex. Hot guy with a troubled past? Check. Girl with self esteem issues? Check. Emotional rollercoaster of drama and emotions? Check.
The books revolves around the main character Eva. She’s fresh from her move to New York City after her college graduation. She meets her boss, Gideon Cross and instantly falls in lust with him (who could have thought that would happen?). It takes a lot for both of them to finally reach the state of coupledom. Both have ugly pasts and make God-awful decision.
The story is well written for a romance novel and surpassed the writing of E. L. James. It was harder to read than “Fifty Shades” because it goes into a lot of detail about nasty business that both characters go through. I had to put it down a few times. The sex scenes were a bit rough, but like I previously mentioned, no beating. These were probably the scenes that were the easiest to read since neither of them were speaking.
The characters were unforgettable, but I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not. The only things sticking to my mind after I read this book were their pasts and their stupid decisions. They fell in love too quickly and broke up too much, but some people like the angst normally saved for teenage romance novels.
It’s not that I didn’t like “Bared To You,” there were just many aspects of the book that could have been improved. Day shouldn’t have shoved their pasts down the reader’s throats so much. If adults want that much on and off again, then they would watch “Gossip Girl.” I’d give it a three out of five stars.
I have a sneaky suspicion “Bared To You” will become a movie soon before or soon after the “Fifty Shades” movie. If this happens, I’ll obviously go see it, but I’m not sure I’ll enjoy it. It might be a similar experience to the “Twilight” movies. I felt obligated to see, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to stab out my eyes while witnessing the awful acting and the only painful expression Kristen Stewart knows how to put on her face.
These are the actors I would choose to play the leading lover’s roles.
Amber Heard- Eva Tramell
Henry Cavill- Gideon Cross
