Paula Deen Shunned After Scandal
The only thing Paula Deen’s name has been cooking up lately is controversy.
In a video-taped deposition from last month, the former Food Network star was asked if she had ever used the “N-word” to which she responded that it is “just not a word that we use as time has gone on.”
To make matters worse, Deen also admitted to thinking that using waiters dressed as slaves at an Antebellum-themed wedding would be a good idea.
The deposition was released last week and Deen has since been on a PR tour to try to clear her name. She released multiple video apologies as well as paying a visit to the “Today” show where she broke down in tears.
Stemming from the negative press that has now attached itself to Paula Deen’s name, the Food Network announced last Friday that it will not renew its contract with the star it created.
This week, Target, Wal-Mart, QVC, and Smithfield Foods also announced that they would be dropping Deen by no longer selling her products.
In better news for the cooking diva, Deen’s upcoming cookbook, “Paula Deen’s New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up” has made it to #1 on Amazon despite the fact it will not be released until October. Sales for Deen’s other titles have also shot up.
Chris Brown May Be Facing Prison Time
Singer Chris Brown was charged with hit-and-run driving and driving without a valid license this week.
In an accident that happened last month, Brown allegedly rear-ended another car, but he claims that there wasn’t actually any damage to the other vehicle.
The prosecutors of the case are alleging that the 24-year-old did not produce a driver’s license at the time of the accident because he did not have one on him. He also failed to swap insurance information with the driver that he rear-ended.
Brown took to his Twitter account to defend him himself even temporarily changing his profile picture to a paparazzi picture from the scene of the accident that showed he had gotten out of his car to survey any damage.
“It’s not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous,” tweeted the singer. “I have a valid driver’s license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene.”
If found guilty, Brown faces 6 months in jail for each charge, however, since this isn’t his first brush with the law, his time in jail may be a lot longer.
The singer is still on probation after assaulting pop-star and then girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009.
The L.A County district attorney is set to review if Brown has violated his probation in the assault case. If he is found guilty and it is shown that he has violated his probation, Brown will be facing four years in prison.
Alec Baldwin Goes on Twitter Rant, Deletes Account
Alec Baldwin has gone on his latest Twitter rant and, yes, it is as amusing as you would think.
The actor’s latest rant was in defense of his pregnant, 29-year-old wife, Hilaria Baldwin.
Baldwin and his wife were among the celebrities in attendance of the late, James Gandolfini’s, funeral on Thursday and, somehow, drama was created.
A reporter from The Daily Mail wrote an article where he alleged that Hilaria had been tweeting while she was at the funeral. The article included the starting time of the funeral, which was 10:00 a.m., as well as the times that Hilaria sent tweets: 9:53 a.m., 10:17 a.m., and 11:09 a.m.
(Never mind that tweets can be scheduled to post at certain times and publicists do tweet for their clients from time to time.)
When Baldwin got ahold of the article, he decided to let the world know how angry he was, via Twitter.
The series of tweets included countless curse words and threatening messages directed towards the writer of the article.
One of the less inappropriate tweets was: “Someone wrote that my wife was tweeting at a funeral. Hey. That’s not true. But I’m going to tweet at your funeral.”
The actor deleted his Twitter account not long after posting the series of tweets.
This is the third time that the actor has deleted his Twitter account after a random rant. The first was in 2011 after going off on American Airlines for throwing him off of a plane because he would not shut his phone off before takeoff. In July 2012, the actor deleted his account yet again after marrying his wife Hilaria simply tweeting, “It’s been fun” before shutting it down.
Maybe this is just an annual tradition that Alec doesn’t want to let go of?
