BATON ROUGE – A new sport is on the rise at LSU. The University now has its own capture the flag team that holds night practices in the quad.
Students are quitting their passions in life to become a part of this team and win the coveted national championship. Athletes, journalists and a variety of other LSU groups are losing members to the extreme sport.
Popular LSU gymnast Shae Zamardi announced her departure from the gymnastics team while at the team’s most recent practice.
“There’s something about capture the flag that just tickles my fancies,” Zamardi said.
A combination of skills such as running, hiding and searching are all necessary to become the best flag capturer possible. Captains draw up elaborate game plans to defend the team flag and acquire the other team’s flag.
Capture the flag is clearly a team sport as members sacrifice themselves as distractions for others to secure victory.
By shedding its blood, sweat and tears, the team hopes to become recognized by the University community as one of the few teams that could possibly bring home a national championship.
