The LSU football team pushed back the start of its spring practices by one day to allow head coach Les Miles and other members of his staff to attend a memorial service Friday night for legendary West Monroe High School football coach Don Shows, who died Monday at age 74.
The Tigers planned to begin practice Friday, but they will now hold their first spring practice Saturday at 1 p.m.
Shows led West Monroe to eight Louisiana Class 5-A State Championships in his 24-year career as the Rebels’ head coach. Miles coached and recruited several players who played for Shows, including NFL first-round draft pick Barkevious Mingo and current LSU senior defensive lineman Jordan Allen.
“Don was a great man, coach and father and he will be missed tremendously,” Miles said Monday in a news release. “He did so many wonderful things that impacted the lives of the players he coached.”
