LSU’s Kappa Sigma fraternity had an inappropriate comment written on their wall Halloween night which says “no means yes and yes means anal,” but the phrase was covered up before the night ended.
Kappa Sigma’s national chapter apologized for the comment made by LSU’s chapter Monday night and said an individual member is being held responsible for writing the phrase.
“Who taught these little boys that it’s okay not to respect women,” psychology student Taylor Buaya said.
Considering university policy, Dean of Students K.C. White says the comment does not violate the student code of conduct, which focuses on actions made towards specific individuals.
“Yes there’s free speech but it can have adverse consequences for individuals on our campus,” White said. “That’s when when we have to help people to understand here’s why this is wrong, [and] here’s why this is unacceptable even if it isn’t a violation of the student code of conduct.”
While White thinks this behavior is inappropriate, some members of Greek Life like Phi Gamma Delta member Gibson Wolverton have a different opinion.
“If you’re a guy it’s pretty funny, but if you’re a girl, I wouldn’t like it,” Wolverton said.
Student and Greek Life are working on putting together more facts about the situation before they take any further action.
