The LSU men’s tennis team opened the ITA Regional Tournament with eight singles wins and one doubles win. The Tigers will enter day two of the tournament with three singles players and four doubles teams in the round of 32.
Senior Chris Simpson, junior Boris Arias and sophomore Justin Butsch finished Thursday a combined 4-0 in singles and will compete in tomorrow’s third round, which starts at 9:30 a.m.
Juniors Tam Trinh and Harrison Kennedy also logged wins in Thursday’s singles but ultimately fell in the second round.
Kennedy found success in the doubles ladder as he and his partner, freshman Simon Freund, defeated a pairing from the University of New Orleans.
After advancing on a bye, the doubles teams of Butsch and Simpson, Arias and sophomore Jordan Daigle and the tournament’s top-seeded pair of Trinh and sophomore Eric Perez will join Kennedy and Freund in the second round, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
