The Southeastern Conference named LSU freshman forward Ben Simmons the conference’s Player of the Week Monday. The selection is the first of Simmons’ career.
Simmons averaged a double-double with 29 points and 16 rebounds to go along with 5.5 assists, three steals and two blocks.
Simmons’ biggest performance of the week came against North Florida when he posted 43 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. His 43 points in the game were the most by an SEC freshman since 1990 when Tennessee’s Allan Houston scored 43.
Simmons and the Tigers return to action on the road Sunday against Houston.
