With Hurricane Isaac moseying toward Baton Rouge, LSU’s facilities crew took a preemptive strike in case inclement weather prevented it from its normal maintenance schedule.
Herb Vincent, LSU’s associate vice chancellor for communications, said the crew painted the Tiger Stadium turf early and secured as many movable objects in the surrounding area in preparation for the storm.
The wind is a concern, but the potential deluge shouldn’t be a problem.
“It’s got a first-class drainage system that should be able to handle plenty of water,” Vincent said. “We’ve never had any issues to date – obviously this is an extreme situation – but the drainage system there is so good that we used to have a tarp … but that’s not necessary now.”
Construction on the stadium’s West side was completed before the storm hit, including construction on new ticket gates. Vincent said the gates are fully functional and ready for the game.
Vincent also said there is not a policy in place that would forbid LSU from playing Saturday’s game if class is canceled for the rest of the week, saying the football schedule and school schedule are not directly related. ____ Contact Luke Johnson at [email protected]
