LSU’s volleyball and soccer teams held a press conference Tuesday to talk about the teams’ upcoming events.In volleyball news, LSU assistant coach Steve Loeswick said the team’s two seniors — libero Elena Martinez and outside hitter Kyna Washington — will be honored after Friday night’s match against Auburn at 7 p.m. in the PMAC.”Kyna Washington and Elena Martinez are two of the best players in the league,” Loeswick said. “They really have laid the groundwork to make sure that this program is on a great footing and is going to continue to be one of the best programs in the country.”Loeswick also talked highly of freshman outside hitter Michele Williams, who was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for her performances against Alabama and Mississippi State last weekend.Williams led the team in kills in both matches this weekend, with 11 and 12 against Alabama and Mississippi State, respectively. She recorded only two errors in 40 attempts over the weekend while hitting .500 against Alabama and a career-high .550 against Mississippi State. Williams also led the team’s defensive effort as she racked up eight blocks.In soccer news, the Tigers will be facing No. 25 Washinton in College Station, Texas, on the field of the Texas A&M Aggies at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.The winner will face the winner of the Texas A&M vs. Texas State match in the second-round at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.”We are a little shocked to be playing Washington because they were a potential top-16 seed going into the tournament,” LSU coach Brian Lee said. “They will be a great challenge in the first round. They are a very good, pass and move soccer team.”
